GET and STAY MOTIVATED in 2020!

Are you having problems staying motivated? Some of us don't have that natural ability to stay motivated ALL the time. And that's okay because there are ways to tackle that problem. There quite a few options out there for different personality types. Below are 6 options to get you going. Pick one (or more) and start your fitness journey!

I received my personal training certificate through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and I love their method for creating a solid goal. So I'm going to start off with that and continue down the line on how to GET and STAY MOTIVATED!

1. "SMART" GOAL

Let's start with what a goal is on how to properly define a goal. There's more to it than "I want to lose weight" or "I want defined abs". There has to be more specific information in there to really nail down what your health and fitness goal is.

In order to have a solid goal, it needs to fit the SMART acronym: SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE, REALISTIC, and TIMELY. If your goal is to lose weight, a SMART goal would look like this: I want to lose 20 lbs in 3 months. This goal falls into this acronym and gives a better representation of something achievable.

2. WORKOUT WITH SOMEONE

This is one of the best ways to stay accountable. Set up a time to meet with a friend at the gym. When someone else is counting on you, it's much more difficult to back out. Not to mention, if you both have the same goals, you both can push and motivate each other.

3. COMPETITION

Some people thrive on competition. Starting a friendly competition or entering yourself into a competition is one sure way of sticking with your health and fitness goals. One of my favorite ways to keep moving is involving myself in Fitbit challenges. You can also sign up for a bikini competition or even a race. If you're AT ALL competitive, this may be the option for you!

4. LOGGING YOUR FITNESS AND NUTRITION

This is a great way to keep yourself accountable. Get a notebook, whether it's a regular notebook or one meant for logging, and write down everything from your workouts to your meals. This is a very personal way to keep you accountable to yourself and more importantly, TRACK YOUR PROGRESS! There is nothing more motivational than seeing that you're improving and making progress towards your goals. This obviously takes some time to keep up with, but if you're serious about achieving the healthiest version of yourself, it's worth committing the time to keep up with it.

5. REWARD YOURSELF

This is a fun and creative way to stay motivated. No matter what the reward is, there is something incredibly satisfying about not just getting fit and staying fit, but treating yourself with a prize! This can be anything you want from money to new gear or an outing after losing so many pounds. BE CREATIVE! Grab your bullet journal and start rewarding yourself!

6. SHARE YOUR GOALS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

This is a very public invitation to your health and fitness journey, but the accountability that it produces is extreme! Post your goals and track your progress through social media. I guarantee you will be surprised with how much you don't want to let your friends down, even those you haven't seen or had a conversation with in 15 years!

Listen, if you're serious about really getting on track with your health and fitness, try one or more of the above suggestions and GET AFTER IT!

Your motivator,

Alicia
